Nancy asks…
Whats a good job for me?
I’m 23 year old mom my son is 2 and he will be going into preschool soon, I need help deciding what I wanna do with my life as far a career goes. I wanted to be an ultrasound tech however where I live I would have to commute 2 hours there and 2 hours back for schooling. I’m interested in some medical fields , event planning, designing, sales, any suggestions. I know its kind of a stupid question I know I should do what I want I just don’t know what that is. Any ideas would help!

The Expert answers:
This is not a stupid question or problem, you have a chance to set your life on an upward path to happiness and success, but you need a little help with the first step.
Visit the local employment office and ask to speak with a career counselor.
You should go to the meeting with a carefully written out list of things you like to do and where you like to do them. Do you like meeting and dealing with people? Do you like working in an office out outside? Are you persuasive? Are you artistic? Can you stand tedium or do you need a constant change?
What things have you done in your life that you are really proud of, things you would consider your accomplishments? How do these accomplishments compare with what you like to do?
Through all this thinking about your future, concentrate on the positive, on things you can do well and like.
Once you have this personal inventory and the meeting under your belt, take stock of where you stand and how you can get the training and experience to make it happen. Again, the state or local employment service can provide valuable help.

Mark asks…
Are my prices reasonable for event planning and coordinating?
I am trying to see if my prices are reasonable, too high or too low. I do not have anyone to mentor wit in my area nor anyone to contact about how to price. I was hoping to get honest opinions on my pricing and website design.
Is the site appealing or does it need work? My preferred vendors section is kind of shabby right now as I am awaiting more information and pictures from them. = )
Are my prices too high, reasonable or too low?
Is it easy to navigate and understand?
All constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps me to improve. Thank you.
My website is:
w w w . s e n t i m e n t a l o c c a s i o n s . c o . n r

The Expert answers:
It needs some work to look more appealing…… Also there are a few spelling errors…… And not all the pages work…..
EDIT: If you want more help on specific parts of the website, email me and i’d be glad to give suggestions……
EDITx2:…… Your prices seem kinda cheap, where do you live? Location will determine prices….. Like a big city, you need to higher your prices…… In a really small city those would be ok…….Also, if you want me to spell check or check grammar i can! Lol sorry…. I’m a bit of a grammar freak sometimes…….

Richard asks…
I’m looking to change careers and become a college admissions counselor. What can I do to prepare?
I have three (3) years of work experience which includes event planning, website design, marketing/branding, event planning, public speaking, and a lot of other transferable skills. I’m really motivated to help others and I’d like a job where I have direct, face-to-face interaction with individuals who require an explanation or communication of complex and unfamiliar ideas, goals, terms, or processes.
The problem is that my degree is in psychology and political science, and I have no admissions or educational experience. I’ve joined my alma mater’s alumni recruitment network as a volunteer (I go to college fairs in my area, send emails to prospective students, etc.), but I’m wondering what else I can do (while still maintaining my current job) to improve my chances and give me some sort of experience.

The Expert answers:
To improve your chances you have to befriend someone with that exact career. They will tell you all the ins and outs and most likely you are overqualified. Make sure you can communicate effectively and you should be fine. It is all about who you know once you have the same credentials as everyone else. Good luck!

Paul asks…
Which girl would you be more attracted to?
Here’s a hypothetical (to settle an argument between me and a friend):
Assuming both girls are available, of legal age, and generally good people (who isn’t slightly flawed?)
Girl #1: Elegant, into fashion and up on etiquette, skilled at ballet, violin, and piano, beauty queen/model, well traveled, college graduate with a B.A/B.S degree, works in real estate/decorating/fashion design/event planning sort of career, loves to cook and is very chic.
Girl #2: Active, adventurous, into thrills. Skilled at martial arts, funny, assertive, has a less advanced degree in college, will take any physical challenge or argument you throw at her, works in law enforcement/military/rescue/stunt type of career, likes to throw parties, hyperactive.
What do you think? Which girl would you pick and why?
LOL. It was not my intention to make girl #1 boring, but oh well!!!
Haha! Yes Jeff, this is under the assumption that both girls are hot. ![]()
I hadn’t considered the competitiveness deal between girl #2 and the guys. Interesting.

The Expert answers:
Girl #2 if she’s attractive
honestly with girl #1 when I saw “beauty queen” I lost any real hope.

Charles asks…
My future plans. Im confused on what to do.?
im fifteen and a freshmen in high school. my dad owns his own Business that does very well and my brother and i will inherit it. but i plan to do more besides that. i am extremely interested in Interior design and in event planning. is it possible to do both? and am i to young to intern or work with someone in this area of work?

The Expert answers:
Ok first of all, dont listen to answer number one. Thats called Spam.
Just know this, you were given the talent and passion you have for a reason. There is no reason why you cant attend college for Interior Design part time, online, while taking care of the family business. And honestly, if taking care of the business isnt your dream, you should be honest and let them know.
Right now I would honestly just wait it out. So many things will probably happen between now and the time you have to take over the business that it may not even be relevant. Just focus on the tasks at hand, school, friends, etc. Who knows what could happen in two years even. Just relax. Have fun. In retrospect I sure wish I did.

Maria asks…
What civilian job can I get with the US Army with my current degree?
I’ve decided that the military is where my heart lies, and although I’m not sure I could cut it physically, I want to be a part of the daily operations of it.
I’m educated, I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA) in Entertainment Design and Technology. I’ve done large event planning and many broadway shows…
It’s become clear that supporting the military is the correct career path I should be following.
What careers as a civilian can I get?

The Expert answers:
You could try for a position with Army morale Welfare and Recreation. They operate a number of leisure activities and entertainment sites in the U.S. And overseas. The source below is to the link for their web site.

Ken asks…
Which csu’s, privates and uc’s have…?
An event planning program, carpentry, interior design and graphic design, aside from art schools? do you need some sort of portfolio?
What exactly do you have to study in order to become an even planner? (Business, etc)
Is there a big demand for carpenters, event planners, graphic designers and interior designers?

The Expert answers:
Event planning is something businesses expect a college intern to handle, picking it up on the fly. Like my daughter did.
You need a degree in Hospitality Management. Event planning is one part of this degree.
At this time there are hundreds of thousands of unemployed carpenters. Interior design pays poorly and graphic design slightly better.
As I said before, event planning is something that low level staff are expected to figur eout.
However, hospitality management pays fairly well and the demand is pretty good.

Mandy asks…
WHAT DO I DO!!!?????????
ok so im going to be graduating high school in a few years and i don’t really have a passion. i don’t know what i want to go to college for. all i know is i want to move to Los Angeles, California and go to college there. what should i do. there is so many things i think i could do. i like architecture, interior design, photography, event planning, and acting so i don’t know what i should go to college for, and also if i become any of those things do i have a chance of making a good amount of money? please help!!

The Expert answers:
Here’s what you do. Go to the best college you can get into and get yourself a good liberal arts education. Explore all those interests you talk about. Get involved with the on-campus theater/photography/special events organizations to try out some of your interests. You might discover that while you like photography for example, you don’t want to do it with the pressure of a deadline. It’s likely that over the four years, you’ll begin to focus on one area or another. If not, you’ll be well educated enough to get a job that pays you enough to live while you continue to explore your interests.
Good luck!
