I have a weekly recurring class on my yahoo calendar. I noticed if I setup an invitation it goes out immediately. Is there a way I can have an invitation go out at a specific time before the event. For example, 2 days before the event an invitation is sent each time it recurs?

Try this: Go to calender, Add event, Repeating(this module can be hidden), Invitations, then Reminders
Reminders(This module can be hidden as well) can vary from 5 minutes to 14 days before the event. As well there is another selection box that will send your reminder to Yahoo Messenger, your email address, or mobile device.

How can I find public speaking work in NYC/NJ/CT?

I have spoken to thousands of kids in high schools all over the NY/NJ area but it takes a LOT of work trying to setup these events with the schools. It’s amazing that in this economy I have to work so hard to volunteer my time to speak at schools. This is however a big part of my life purpose so I need to find a more efficient way to find speaking gigs. I want the schools to start contacting me rather than I have to run them down all the time.

I would also like to start speaking at colleges as well, but I would charge the colleges. I think I need a PR agent but that is probably too expensive. Is there some kind of agency I can join? How can I increase my speaking opportunities?

Temporary TV Antennae Installation?

I’m trying to setup an option to have a group of people watch a season opening sporting event at a location that does not have any cable, satellite or antennae available. Is there a temporary way to recieve a signal with high enough quality to really enjoy the picture on a digital projector at a large screen size?

The Expert answers:

A lot depends on where you are located with respect to the transmitter. If you are close enough, you may be able to get adequate reception with an indoor antenna (Zenith Silver Sensor). Since you are interested in a single channel for this event, you may find a location to optimize reception on that channel. For a temporary outdoor installation you can mount a telescoping mast alongside your house. Secure the pole with a clamp at the roof line (as high as you can). Hopefully you can get reception with the antenna about 6′-8′ above the clamp so you don’t need guy wires (and hope for a windless day). To get an idea of what kind of antenna you need go to http://antennaweb.org and enter the location’s address.

Starting a Clothing Business?

Does anyone have experience selling clothing online and outdoor events such as races, craft shows, fairs, car shows, etc.?? I’m in the process of setting up licensing, resell permit, and wholesale accounts with vendors. I will be operating initially as a home based business. Since you’ve never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you’ll start a totally web-based business or one with a store front. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a Clothing business and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll go after them.

You’ll need to register the business with your state controller’s office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

Im trying to install audio drivers and…..??

i just installed the audio drivers and i went through the setup thing and i restarted. When i restarted it said it had failed to blabla and it said check event viewer. What do i do to fix this mess up.

Probably, you didn’t install the right drivers. Check again to see that you have the right driver. You can check the manufactures website and check if they have updates for that driver, if you are using windows, check for updates. If that didn’t help, uninstall and reinstall the drivers, you can change the slots to a different one (if it is not embedded).

Should i go to party with this girl i like or do my own thing?

What the best move is here? I have this girl I have my eye on, and we setup to go to afternoon event together this weekend. Problem is afterwards her best friend is having an important friends get together. And its not a phony out to ditch me, its an event that was planned long time ago. She said that it is also all people just talking Spanish so it might not be a great time for me either. She says she would like me there, but my own impression is she feels she might have to babysit me, but she would still like me there.

Would it come off much better if I just make other plans myself and cut myself out for the evening, thus getting her off guilt hook of bringing me along and babysitting, and showing her I got social life outside of her?

Or should I take offer to come along? I am capable of holding my own in social gatherings, so no babysitting required.
So maximize time with her? Or cut bait and hopefully leave her wanting more?

Go to the afternoon event with her! If she offered to take you to the next scheduled thing, decide during the afternoon event…..or makeplans to do something with her at anther time. You don’t have to be sewn at the hip for an entire afternoon/evening.

My Husband & I own & run a DJ service. We are willing to travel almost anywhere for our clients. We live in a metropolitan area & may travel as little as 5 miles to as many as 70+ miles. It can be difficult to meet some of the venues expectations. I have the reoccurring problem that the venue we are supposed to play at has a strict set up time. For example they want us setup between 10am-2pm, the event isn’t starting till 6pm. I prefer to go set up at about 4:30-5pm if we are traveling more than 25+ miles.

Sometimes if the GIG is near by my husband sets up early then goes to work then goes to play at the gig so its not that we aren’t willing to work with client or venue. I don’t mind setting up early but sometimes my husband has to work even when we ask for the day in advance they need him (full time job). I am not interested in charging more but I believe that some venues charge if they have to open again. I have heard something like $50.00 which isn’t much but it is still money.

What would you do? How can I include this in our contract so that clients aren’t surprised about having to pay a fee to the venue.

What stipulations can I include in my contract to protect ourselves & how can I word it so that it is clear.

I have tried to get clients to put pressure on the venue to accomodate us but because they charge extra I lose everytime. I guess I’d have to charge more than the venue inorder for client to be willing to pay venue fee.

FYI: I would hands down put Contract work before Job & pray for the best.

Hello Hun,

First off let me recommend talking to the venues and asking them if it is possible for you to set up the night before the event, before they close. It’s not definite but it is possible that they could have a time frame to do so. If not and you do need to charge to cover fees that the venue is charging you, i recommend that in your contract that you state that..
.. You set up an hour and a half to 2 hours before the starting time of the event and that if the venue has a specific time for setting up that is out of your 1.5 – 2 hour time frame prior to the start time of the event, the customer will need to cover the reopening fees given by the venue to set up at a later time, if the venue charges one at all.

So here is how i would professionally add this to your contract.

( company’s name ) arrives at the venue and sets up the equipment 2 hours prior to the start time of your event. If the venue’s time frame for setting up does not match ours then a fee from the venue may be applied to reopen at our convenience/time frame. If a reopening fee is required then the fee will be added to the price ( state initial price ) that we had agreed upon in our contract, resulting in a new balance of ( new price after initial price you offered + fee from venue )

Also heres another idea.
State everything i just said but instead of saying; if the venue requires it then they will have to pay, you can require they put a down deposit for the fee and if the venue does not charge the fee then they ( the customer ) will receive 100% of their down deposit for the fee

Help me Graph These Equations!?

The cost of invitations can be written as C = 35 + 0.75(g – 50) where g is the number of invitations you plan to buy.

The Special Occasion Store also sells invitations for various parties and special events. They charge a $45 setup charge, which includes your first 50 invitations. You will only pay $0.65 for each invitation over the 50. The cost of the invitations can be written as C = 45 + 0.65(g – 50) where g is the number of invitations you plan to buy.

I have been learning how to graph equations but this one looks different from the others.

I have to input my answers to Graphmatica a graphing software. I would appreciate if you could help me by simplifying this equation. My problem is when there is an additional charge for invitations over 50.

First of all, simplify the first equation and use y and x instead of C and g.

Y1 = 0.75x -2.5
Y2 = 0.65x + 12.5

graph these and it will become obvious which store is better for what # of invitations you’re ordering.
If one charges a surcharge for invitations over 50, then you just need to shift that part of the line up by the surcharge.

Does RIM Blackberry Internet Solution allow wireless syncing of calender events from Microsoft exchange?

I am looking to roll out Blackberry 8800 phone across my business. We have a hosted MS exchange server and are not looking to setup a Blackberry Enterprise Server, so are going to looking into the Blackberry Internet Solution (BIS). The different operators can not give me a definitive answer if BIS will wireless sync calender and contacts. Can anyone help?

We currently use Treo 650 handsets which sync email, calender and contacts wirelessly directly with MS exchange, so don’t really want to lose this functionality.

No, BIS only syncs email. Full wireless sync requires BB Enterprise Server.

How many turning points are possible before one realizes they are merely turning in circles?

I always thought the fall of Baghdad was the turning point…then I was enlightened to discover that the turning point was the setup of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA).

Or was the turning point the Iraqi election to elect a body to draft their constitution? Or was it the election to endorse the constitution? Or maybe it was the election that elected their assembly…or was it the selection of Jafari, err, I mean Al-Maliki as President. It all gets confusing after a while, because every event is touted as the turning point.

Or perhaps the turning point was when Dick Cheney declared the insurgency in its “last throes”. Or perhaps it was when the administration felt the killing of al-Zarqawi was the turning point.

Maybe I just don’t understand what comes after these “turning points”…
I think a lot of you are part of the “State of Denial”, aptly laid out by Bob Woodward in his best selling book. Whether you agree or disagree with this Administration, it is worth the read to find out how this Administration really operates. I found it frightening, perhaps you would have a different take on it…
And yet with all this supposed progress…more Americans and Iraqis will die this month than in previous months in more hostile attacks (now averaging 3,000/month).

Taylor Ranch in Fletcher, NC wedding prices?

I love the pictures of Taylor Rance but have not been able to visit it. They were very kind, but the event coordinator was out of town until Monday and we need to order invitations tomorrow. If I could know a ballpark price, I could wait for the venue, but I don’t want to wait until Monday for it to be too expensive or not what we are looking for.

We are on a limited budget, but like the idea of paying a little more for less work (setup and take down) so that my family isn’t stressed after the wedding!

Windows media center wont start!?

I can not get it to start. This morning I changed the background using media center setup(free ware). It keeps crashing the instant I start it. It gives me a dll error when I look it up under the event center. I have no viruses or malware to my knowledge Any help will be appreciated!
I can’t get it to do a restore point either…

Try starting in safe mode (usually done by pressing F8 as soon as the computer starts booting)use system restore to return the computer to the point before you changed the background.
That should fix it.

What is the most outrageous thing you have witnessed live?

It can be anything from a sex act to an embarassing moment to a fist fight.

There were two things I can think of.

The first happened in college. I came home drunk and walked in on my roomate and his girlfriend having sex. I turned to close the door and she panted out, “Stay and watch us finish” It didn’t get any more involved than that and they ended up splitting 2 weeks later.

The second event was a jackass type setup where a guy pulled up to a gas station and there were loud bangs coming from the trunk. The attendant asked him what was going on and suddenly a bound and gagged man in only underwear popped out and started running down the street. We only realized it was a gag when the cameras popped out a minute later.

I was tossed around like a sock in a clothes dryer.

How do I find out if the UK Events company Concerto Group 02063425 is in trouble or going bankrupt?

I looked on companies house and they suffered a big loss of £169,947 in their 2010 accounts. It seems from reading a statement from Mike Kershaw, Chairman of The Concerto Group on an event blog in the event news that they are seeing another slow down in business again this year which would indicate further losses are going to be announced. “We are all too well aware that things have been tough in the events market for the past six months; we all know how hard every sale has been and how tight clients are getting on budgets”. http://community.eventmagazine.co.uk/forums/t/1771.aspx

It concerns me that such a big company that deals with so many events each year could possibly be heading into bigger financial trouble or even bankruptcy causing those who have given them money to lose it. Is there a way I can protect myself if I get them to organize an event for me or supply them with products?

How can a company that made £191,403 in 2009, made a loss of £169,947 in 2010 which nearly wipes out its 2009 profit, and further says that trading conditions are slowing further describe itself as a £30 Million+ company. Is this being done to mislead its clients? A company that has just submitted accounts saying that they have lost £169,947 and are now finding trading conditions difficult cannot be a a £30 Million+ company?

Companies House is the only way you can check if a company is legit etc and you have done that. To protect yourself if you have doubts, don’t trade with them, or if you do and supply products, make sure its COD or 30 days only, you call the shots. If they are supplying an event make sure you take out specific curtailment insurance.

You could also make discreet enquiries by asking other companies that supply them to give feedback on their payment, if theyv’e had any payment issues etc. Or, go to the top, ask to speak to the MD and ask for a written assurance that the company is rock solid.

What is the best way to get a liquor company to sponsor (provide booze) an event (over 1000ppl)…?

I am holding a guerrilla event and I am seeking liquor representation… I have done most of the demographic and target market preliminary work.

I think it’s extremely doubtful that a liquor company would sponsor a guerrilla event. There would be no guarantee that under-age kids would be prohibited and their liability would be at stake. Hundreds of drunks at an unsupervised event would be a PR disaster. And even if they were willing to sponsor, the alcohol would not be free. Most major sporting and music events are sponsored by liquor companies and the beer is more expensive there than anywhere.

As a school assignment, I have to write to an organization or company and praise their products.I figured I should write to there marketing. I am writing to my favorite team and I want to write about how I am a loyal customer, how I buy a lot of merchandise, tickets, how I support events and I really want to praise them. What is someone in marketing really in charge of? Is what I want to say appropriate?

Hi somebody from marketing is generally in charge of all marketing and this may include merchandise but for a large organization this is more likely to be done be there procurement department/buyers.

A marketeer may however be responsible for buying promotional merchandise to promote any special events or for any trade shows or conferences. The marketing department would also be responsible for any literature ie brochures, posters ect, and possibly for the content and layout of the website.

A procurement department with buyers would be responsible for sourcing team merchandise, and buyers normally work closely with the marketing departments as they would be relying on them to promote the merchandise.

Well, I think a strong and relevant promotion would be to target the largest accounts and set up an appointment with the buyer for each firm for about 11:30 or 12:00 noon and bring in some food samples for a food tasting. (I once did a promotion (not in the food industry) by bringing in music (Dean Martin’s version of “When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza pie, that’s amore”), grape juice, pizza and a checked red tablecloth to 12 major design firms in the city – it was a huge hit and I got more than an hour’s worth of time with each firm to do my presentation.)

Another idea to reach a large number of clients is to organize a food tasting event and invite all your prospects (ask them to RSVP, remind them the day before the event, and expect only about 15 to 20% of your total invitation list to show up).

For a movie studio to change its catering supplier, you need to be able to wow them. Make sure you provide a price sheet for the samples you bring (as well as a package that includes what you do and what the prices are for what you do, minimum orders, advance lead times, etc.). In your business, it’s a challenge to do marketing on a low budget.

Marketing help?

I have an Event Management company that uses Event Management Students to help out and gain experience and points for their studies.

At the moment, there is very little marketing involved and I would really like to market it more.

The marketing is mainly internal: enrollments, open days, submissions of proposals to upcoming events and local colleges.

I use marketing materials, such as brochures, to try and spread the word. But I’m having issues trying to get the name branded.

Can you suggest any marketing activities I can use for the year to improve my business? And also how I can monitor it for effectiveness?

These advisors might tell the students about you, especially if they think you are providing the students with a good opportunity. Also you could offer to give some talks/lectures/workshops/q & a sessions relating your hands-on experience of Event Management – this would raise your profile among the students and they might be keen to volunteer with you? I have a job already. But if I became unemployed/redundant, how long would it take for me to get a job? If I was willing to take anything?

I am just asking out of curiosity, as I know the job market is unstable, as I am going to get a mortgage and want to know how much I should have saved for event of emergency.

The process normally goes like this: Call/go in see if they are hiring, grab application and fill it out (maybe online) and then hand it in, they will either say call or come in for an interview.

exhibition agency means an agency that designs and builds physical space exhibits, booths, signs, displays, and even puts on live events sometimes. The salary range in the US for this job is from 75-110,000 USD/yr.
it’s a Taiwan company, but they advertised for experienced Americans and Europeans, so it’s hard to guess if they are treating it as a local hire or not.

Renege on Job Acceptance due to Personal Reason and How to do it?

I know its extremely unprofessional to reneg on an offer but some unforeseen events have occured during my two week notice to start my new job. How should i approach this situation? I must withdraw my acceptance but I don’t know how.I’m not accepting another offer but I need to move to another state due to personal reasons? Does anyone know what to say and how to format a letter to the company and will this hurt me when I go back in the job market?

i got a degree, like many others – almost useless
i got exp in the industry I want to work in ( 1 year professional paid and 2 year voluntary work).
The job markets been bad for well over a year now, my job has me on reduced hours like 16 a week to cut costs.

I spend about 2 days working a week usually weekends and look 20-35 hours a week for full time work and get around 15 applications done each week for anywhere in the UK. out of 150 applications in the last 2.5 months only had 2 interviews and alot of very strange job work offers (jobs that sounded very dodgy with no interview or contract or any face to face contact).

The job centre is like here work for FREE giving up your part time paid job to get MORE experience, i think three years exp is good enough to be considered a full time job in the industry I want (events/ logistics/ sport and leisure) or they say go back to university or take another course!

What the hell is going on? and remember in a 4 months time the 2010 graduate are out another 400 thousand competitors for jobs!

I think having a business card is a creative way to network, even for a student.
Basics would be your name and contact information, phone, email, address, etc.
For a title under your name, I would simply put Marketing Major – University or College you are attending
A catch phrase could be an asset or a negative. It depends on the phrase and the receiving audience.
If you decide yes – something like “Committed to Excellence since – (00/00/0000 birthdate). Let them figure out what that means.

How can I automatically update one page of my website with changes on another page?

Here is the setup:

I have a events.htm page with events listed in chronological order. Each event has a date and title with a following description.

I have a front page, index.html, that has a small sidebox that lists three of the upcoming events that will be happening the soonest. So far, I have been updating this sidebox manually.

However, I would like to know if there is a way to have this sidebox pull only the date and title of the first three events listed on the events.htm page and automatically update whenever update the events.htm page.

Do I use PHP, SSI, CSS?? I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ahead of time.

You can use PHP (and in fact I recommend it), but you could also use Javascript and Ajax. PHP is better because of the added security, but if your web server does not support php, you can just as easily use Javascript and Ajax. For info on both, go to http://w3schools.com

What happens if a drive of my RAID 5 array fails?

I have an aging RAID 5 array (4 x 200 GB) in my file server and as its age increases I’m starting to worry that one of the drives will soon fail, especially since that system is on 24×7.

Although I built that setup exactly for the event where one of the drives would fail, I’m not familiar with how data would be restored.

So let’s imagine one of the drives in my array decides to die.

My first concern will be how to replace it. 200 GB drives have apparently become hard to find and all I’m finding on Newegg is 160 and 250 GB drives with nothing in-between.
Pursuant to that, would it be OK (with regards to the RAID 5 array) to replace the defunct 200 GB drive with a 250 GB drive?
What are the consequences of having a drive of a different size than the others in a RAID 5 setup, if any?

Once I have a replacement drive, I guess I’ll unplug the defunct drive, plug in the new drive, and boot the PC… and then what? Will my RAID controller prompt me to rebuild the array?

I appreciate the answers so far, but unless I’m missing something it appears that none of you have answered one of my main questions; allow me to restate it:

What happens if I cannot procure a drive of the same size, specs, etc., as the drives I already have?
I have 4×200 GB drives and, searching online, can only find 160 GB and 250 GB drives but no 200 GB drives.

Would it be OK to replace a dead 200 GB drive in my array with a 250 GB drive, technically speaking?
I don’t mind if 50 GB are wasted in the process, all I care about is that the array works after the replacement is made =p

You’re pretty much right on track. You’ll need to replace the drive with one that’s exactly the same geometry (i.e same size, number of tracks, sectors, etc). I keep a few spares on the shelf for this reason.

Once you replace the bad drive, the RAID controller will see at and rebuild the array. RAID 5 is pretty reliable for this.

I a bit of a complex problem. My mom has problems with the church members so she forces us to goto a new church each week, but my old church is my home and I have been there for years. `It sounds like the purpose of this exercise is to help you visualize how the cost per invitation diminishes the higher you go above the minimum. Note: please be aware that the formulas given in both problems are ONLY GOOD FOR INVITATIONS OVER 50. WHEN THE NUMBER OF INVITATIONS IS UNDER 50 IT”S A FLAT RATE.

There is no real answer but the idea is to graph the function. Make a graph so that the X-axis is number of invitations, and the Y-axis is total cost. Once you graph these you should see that at 150 invitations both stores will cost the same. Another way to figure this out is to set both equations equal to each other as so…

35+0.75(g-50) = 45+0.65(g-50)

35+0.75g-37.5=45+0.65g-32.5

0.75g-2.5=12.5+0.65g

0.75g=15+0.65g

0.1g=15

g=150

Gym lesson, condition and strength training?

I and a friend of mine have been assigned by our Gym teacher to hold a gym lesson for the class.
We are supposed to do this with the theme being “condition and strength training”
We we’re told to have a setup something like this:
- Warm up
- Theoretical part
- technics (Eks: Inn football it can be dribbling)
- Main part/exercise/event
- Stretching

We are a bit unsure how to build this lesson, and we are happy for all responses :)

A good warm up would maybe do a little bit of running, maybe some jumping jacks, or just anything to get everyone moving and warm. I’m not so sure what you mean by theoretical part, as for techniques, pick a sport that you two feel you know best and focus on that. If you are both familiar with basketball, for example, work on some dribbling, some passing, shooting, and maybe add some fun by trying to spin the ball on your finger. Then you could play a game of basketball, or even play a game like horse or bump. After that, just some basic stretches (you can do a youtube search and I’m sure you could find a million different stretching exercises). You could also throw some push-ups, sit-ups, etc in there for strength conditioning.

How do I back up my emails and in the event of a crash then restore them to the new setup?

If your just using email on local pc’s with no server then click file then import/export. This assumes Outlook or Outlook express.

The dinner for the basic package isn’t included, the other package they offer is for a larger venue and costs $6k but includes the same stuff pretty much.

The dinner I am looking at for the second listed venue is an entree, two sides, and a starch for $9-11/person and the drinks are separate. All she has are brown table linens to match my theme. Not really a lot of other decor and the place holds a max of 70 whereas the other holds more than 100. There are 108 on my guestlist.

My budget is $8k for the wedding (honeymoon not included) and I paid $880 for the dress, veil, and tiara. I’m getting cheaper shoes cause they are shoes haha, and the petticoat will be $50. I have the undergarments, I don’t need to wear theirs. Too much $$.

So what do you think?
Cake is typically $3 a slice, so I guess it will cost $270-$300. If you buy a cake with the first venue, the cutting fee is included.
First package $85 for outside gazebo, $275 for inside ceremony. Of course, outside is GORGEOUS! The white hanging drapery…
I like the first one. It might be a tad more, but it makes planning EASY! The cake and dinner are there, I have a friend who will DJ, so all I need is a photographer, flowers, and an officiant! The paper products are being done by a friend (all I need is the paper) and the favors I may not even do. Most of our guests are very close and would be happy with something small if we did favors.
Already said I have a DJ, and am doing paper products (invitations, place cards) on my own. I’m going to use a few more candles for the centerpieces, but really no more florals than what I have for my bouquets and cake.
I think because the first venue is priced for 100 people, and I will have 75-80 guests. Making it $4874 instead of $5114…
WHY do we need a limo? We’re not having a limo! Our bands are $500 together. His tux is FREE.

I would say do the second option and go with a separate caterer. Often, catering companies will be lower priced with a lot more options. (My venue’s caterer is $17/person with only finger foods, but the private caterer I’m going with is only $10/person with 2 entrées, sides, veggie trays, etc.) Also, private catering companies can give you good leads on bakeries, photographers, and other vendors. They deal with brides frequently, so they know we’re on a strict budget; whereas, your venue wants to make as much money as possible so they will suggest companies that they’ve cut deals with. Does that make sense?

From what I understand, your reception and dinner should only be about half your budget, if that helps.

When I set my pc in sleeping mode it is woken up. Why?

I’v thought abt saving energy of my pc which was bought 2 years ago (Core 2 Duo 2,2 GHz). I’v read abt setting to S3 mode in BIOS Setup to hv good results of saving energy. Then I made trials on WinXP to switch my pc to sleep mode (S3). The problem is after short or longer time it is woken up n I don’t know why? I tried to make waking up events disabled in BIOS Setup, allowing only waking up on Any Key event. No results in WinXP. Is it something simple I can do or maybe to resign such saving energy? It looks like my HDD is stopped in S3, so I don’t know if it makes its life shorter when I use this function switching often?

Peace rallies, protests, gestures, gatherings, events etc…..?

I went to a concert a few years ago for world peace, it had a huge variety of famous artists and bands, U2, celine dion, the black eyed peas, sting, phil collins etc…..it was just a world peace concert to raise awareness, i also visitted family in Arizona and there was a giant ‘Peace’ hot air balloon gathering where like 70 balloons or so raised to the skies for obvious reasons, a plane flew by in the sky and wrote ‘PEACE’ in big letters with smoke…..these are just a few good examples of peace gatherings and such…..but what why question is, do you think they work?

I only ask this question because for about 9 out of every 10 people actually stop and look at these ‘PEACE’ messages and think about them, others just drive by and look at them and it doesnt even effect them or sink in in any way, almost like they were never even there. So, do you think that all these gatherings, concerts, protests and rallies are getting the point across? Do people even look at these protests and care? Do you think theyre actually breaking through and getting to people? Or are all these gatherings and rallies and such just a huge waste of time? Janice are you high? $950 for a photographer is not bad? I did WORST case scenario here. Least amount saved, with the most I would pay towards each thing. I will definitely try to do as much myself. I am going to serve one glass per person for dinner (wine) great suggestion! I just need to find a white and red as an option maybe. Depends on the dinner I assume. Red is an aquired taste, but I enjoy it myself. As I said, this is just to get an idea. I’d love to spend less on each item. I just broke it down using my own judgement instead of percentages. They didn’t work for me considering the bulk of things is already included in the package. I’m not getting personalized M&Ms, no way. The tulle bags are maybe 20 cents each. I’m not filling them to the brim either. I want to offer something edible without hassle, but without overdoing it. I hear a lot of favors get left. I never noticed favors myself. A dinner with friends is enough for me and most the people I associate with feel the same.

There are several areas you could cut back on expenses.
1) The wedding party gifts. You should be able to cut that in half if you get creative.
2) Wine. Like the other poster said, just serve enough for toasts. Can the rest be byob?
3) Cake knife set. Surely you can find some cheaper. Check out Target, Hobby Lobby or another party store.
4) Flower girl/ring bearer. Surely you can find some cheaper. Check out Target, Hobby Lobby or another party store.
5)Honeymoon. (We took a 7 day cruise and spent $1500, maybe $2000 after paying the on-board alcohol bill.)
6) Wishing tree. Is this really necessary? Just leave cuts of paper on the dinner table.

The Illuminati did exist as a secret society but they were secret only to protect themselves from persecution by the all powerful Roman Catholic church. They were all very intelligent and respected scientists philosophers and logical thinkers. One of the original members was Galileo who proved that the Earth rotated around the sun (which it does) but the church held that the sun rotated around the Earth (which it doesn’t) because the Earth was the centre of the universe. Even though he was right, he was forced to recant and was held under house arrest for many years.

Once the church lost its power, nearly 200 years ago, the Illuminati ceased to exist because science could be pursued openly and there was no need for secret societies. As a matter of interest, Galileo was a devout Roman Catholic. He also died about 200 years before the secret society was formed in Bavaria and the two groups may have been connected but were not the same entity.

The New World Order (or the Illuminati taking over the world) would have happened many decades ago if it was going to happen at all – but it wasn’t because, like the Devil worship nonsense, the whole thing was a malicious rumour set about by the Church to discredit the Illuminati and to maintain their own dubious integrity. Rumours simply developed over time into conspiracy theories. So right now, my setup is a Music Man Albert Lee and Bogner Alchemist 112 Tube Amp right now, but I need something louder for live shows. Let me make a suggestion to you … Perhaps another half-stack amp is not what you really need. Assuming you already like the sound you are getting from your current amp setup, why not just amplify that sound further? I was recently faced with a rather unique problem but, not unlike your own. In my case, I play the guitar, bass and keyboard and wanted one amplifier that could handle all three instruments. I also wanted the best quality of sound that I could get within my budget and it had to be powerful enough to play almost any gig anywhere. There were no amplifiers that were powerful enough to do what I needed an amp to do. So, I started with the speakers and I was determined to piece together a system that would work for me. Of all the speaker systems on the market today for live sound, in my opinion, you just cannot beat the quality and tone reproduction of a JBL speaker system. They are simply the best and have been for many years. So, I selected twin JBL JRX115 2-way speaker cabinets to start with. Split your Club into Groups.. Then.. Instruct the groups to make their own business, Try to make it as a contest, the one w/ the highest income will get prizes and stuff. That way there will be life in the activity.

By this… They Will learn how to advertise their products, how to sell’em and they will learn that business is not a walk in the park. And by that way…The students will also benefit by this activity.

And also Pick Up few Lessons on…Marketing, Fair play, TEAMWORK and Sportsmanship.

We are a fine dining place in a beach community so the people are dressed casual at the same time. We do a Best of Prime menu and and our advertizing is great. In my experience with fine dining/booking events, the more “exclusive” you make the event, the more people pine to be there.

Perhaps when inviting past guests, let them know it is by invitation only, and you are giving them, your loyal customer, the first chance to make a reservation.

Do you do any special entertainment? For example, if you’re hosting a Mexican style cuisine, you could bring in a mariachi band. If it’s fine Italian, a string quartet. You get the idea.

I am doing a project for management consulting firm as part of my interview and I have no idea how businesses / corporations decide on which training programs to use, and how they get to know of such programs. I know a lot of it is by referral, but I am interested in finding out of there are trade shows and other kinds of event marketing that can work. Are there things like Human Resource conferences where HR professionals gather and a marketing event might be a viable form to reach out to them? Thanks in advance for your answers.

Cold calls, brochures and mailings, recommendations from golfing buddies, referrals from others in the industry.

I would say mailings (brochures, and course catalogs) are #1 for us. Some of those mailings come from companies that got our address from the CEO or HR personnel who attended a conference on new HR laws, mixers, trade shows, etc…

If it is a big head shrinking process like an efficiency program with personality profiling or manager communication training, there would be lots of meetings to decide which way to go before making a commitment. Much of the selling would be done in those preliminary planning meetings.

Would this be a good marketing idea?

I had recently started my own photography business and want to get my name out a lot more than I have so far. Marketing is so expensive I can hardly afford it so I came up with a solution. Please let me know what you think….
The local news station’s have a community calender which I can place an event for free and it gets shown on the t.v channel a couple times a day as well as their website. I can also put an event in the newspaper free of charge as well.

So I was thinking of setting a date, time and location where I could set up all of my equipment and offer anyone a “free family photo session” and charge like $5 – $10 for the disk and to mail it to them. I wouldn’t make anyone money but I would get word of mouth and some free advertising.

I don’t have a studio but I am able to set up lighting and do portraits at our city’s stadium. Its very large inside and open to the public w/o admission costs everyday.

My fiancee says that its a very bad idea because it will attract the wrong kind of people. Well personally I don’t think there is any sort of set type of people for photos. Everyone in my opinion should be able to afford and receive high quality portraits. I am willing to risk an entire day of giving free photos just to get my name out there. I want people to know I am very good at what I do and I also want a name for myself.

What do you think is this a good or bad idea…? Any advice would be great!!

Great idea. Although even your hopefully new customers might only come on the free day, as well. Word-of-mouth would be, “there’s this free session available on Saturday’s so go then for a great deal”.

It might be quite some time before this turns a profitable, non-free-day clientele base.

Do it once a weekend, but alternate Saturday and Sunday each week to keep the “freebie newbie” clients to a minimum. This increases “coverage” since there will be a different population of “regulars” on Saturdays as compared to Sundays.

And since you’re starting outand you have fewer clients… Well you may not have money for advertising, but you have plenty of time. Use that for advertising. Find out the local ordinances on placing fliers on cars. If you can, spend as much money on half or quarter sheet sized fliers. Or get business cards printed with the services you have available… And place those on cars. :)
You can also place these on public bulletin boards like at almost every grocery store there is a section near the entrance or exit doors with numerous local-related pamphlets, fliers, and magazines. Find out if there is a local/regional magazine: they will have lower advert rates than the local newspaper.

Also, set up a website. Use all of that time you have to search for sites that offer free/cheap website templates. Also consider using several “blog sites” to advertise your business. Anything that increases the coverage of your name. Consider writing a blog with your photography on it. Talk about your life and experiences. Keep it friendly and professional…just not too wooden. You want to draw people in with warmth and/or professionalism.

There might also be some deals you can make with photography-related companies that need new places to put links to their own catalogs and online stores. You can make a little cash by making a deal like this if your blog/site draws a certain number of people.

My first farmers market…need some ideas?

I am going to a local town for a farmers market, its a big event because they are having the whole sidewalks full of vendors, I usually sell fudge on the side and sometimes chocolate covered cherries but I wanted more to take with me that just that, so Im doing fudge, cherries, chocolate covered strawberries, Divinity and chocolate covered apples. I dont want to overcharge on things either and not sell a thing but also I wanted some ideas on some other good chocolates people are interested in that I may not have thought of.

Vegan chocolate :) ) If you put “vegan” on the sign, without dairy, honey, or any animal ingredients, of course, and you list the ingredients, I’m sure that you will sell quite a lot of it.

Some great chocolate I had recently was carob peanut butter. I don’t know how to make it or how they made it vegan, but it was amazing.

Have you ever stopped to think..

about the effectiveness of our education system?

The only things that I have retained and find extremely important in all of my 14 YEARS of schooling is…reading/writing, and basic arithmetic.
Besides that I can’t recall anything of importance that I have learned and have taken with me throughout life.

In fact I have come to realize that the majority of the knowledge I find most important have not come from schooling but instead from real life and the internet.

Things like: Spirituality, values/morals, mental/physical health, importance of exercise, stretching, nutrition, and sleep; social skills, self-confidence, the mind-body connection, philosophy/free thinking, self-help and motivation, the power of mentality and thinking, politics, using modern technology, how technology helps and hinders us at the same time..

i could go on and on about what I have retained via real life experiences and the internet vs traditional schooling, but you see my point.

What I am trying to say is I can’t even recall or use the majority of what I supposedly memorized in school!

Think about it..isn’t learning supposed to be intriguing and fun? I mean don’t you love learning new skills, new ideas, new ways of thinking to improve your quality of life and further your understanding??

Then why in the hell do i dread school? Why is it such a daunting and stressful task?
Why has my mental and physical health declined because of it??

I’ll tell you what I think…it’s because schools are not employing the right techniques in order to successfully learn and retain information!
I mean when was the last time schools taught you effective ways to learn? You heard me…when have you been taught to learn how to learn?

In order to educate yourself effectively you must first know the basic learning skills such as note-taking, study habits, etc… I don’t recall this being mentioned even once throughout my 14 YEARS of education.

Also how many college classes are simply lecture halls where you are expected to memorize everything the instructor says? This is absolutely the wrong atmosphere to be learning!

There are numerous studies that prove by creating a friendly atmosphere involving active participation that student retention rates were up to 90% as compared to the average in lecture halls (5%). I mean learning is supposed to be fun and mind-expanding, you should learn by teaching others and by hands on participation.

Sometimes I seriously feel like a zombie just going through the motions, as I rarely see any teachers encourage you to actually think for yourselves

Anyways I am contemplating dropping out of school to further my education and opportunities as i feel schooling nowadays is simply a marketing strategy in which students only attend for a piece of paper (degree)

Study something you are interested in NOT something that will make you only money.
If you learn about a subject that gets your rocks off you WILL learn something of value.

What do you do to prepare for a trading event?

If you knew that the fed was going to cut interest rates, you would obviously act on the stocks that had been beat up the most by the lack of affordable liquidity. So you would have bought calls on those companies, mortgage bond insurers, subprime lenders, home builders, companies that would see a rosier future as a result of the reverse of poor possibilities for their products to be bought and defaulted on in the near future.

How far in advance of these trading moments would you have prepared that strategy? How are you preparing your next strategy to deal with the next upside or downside possible overall market or industry surprise?

The problem with your theory is that, in the real world, by the time you get around to figuring out what the Fed is likely to do, the market will already have incorporated the information into the price of the stock.

Market analysts have powerful computers and sophisticated algorithms at their disposal that are able to — and actually do — react to news and the expectation of news in a fraction of a second. My guess is that you don’t.

When are people going to figure out that its not the lack of oil causing gas prices to soar Its just greed?

The combined profit for the two companies was close to $17 billion—$9.08 billion for Shell and $7.6 billion for BP. These figures include earnings attributed to the rise in oil prices. If this rise is factored out (as is done in the so-called current cost of supplies figures), Shell’s profits were $7.8 billion and BP’s were $6.6 billion. That is, at least $2 billion in profit for the two companies can be attributed solely to the recent rise in oil prices.

Analysts expect the profits for Exxon Mobil, the largest private energy company, to soar to $11.2 billion in the first quarter, an increase of 22 percent over 2007. If the company’s profits exceed expectations, however, it could beat its fourth quarter profits from 2007 of $11.66 billion—the record for a US company.

Of course, the top executives and investors will benefit enormously from these windfalls. Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson received an 18 percent raise in 2007, pulling in $21.7 million. The oil companies will also give back billions to investors in the form of stock buybacks and dividends.

The news from Shell and BP came as a surprise to analysts, who have been concerned about profit troubles in the refinery component of production, which transforms crude oil into useable products like gasoline and diesel. Giants like Shell and BP, and US companies Exxon and Chevron, are vertically integrated, including in their operations both oil extraction and refining.

While the Bush administration cites a lack of refineries for energy shortages, internal oil industry documents show that five years ago companies were looking for ways to cut refinery output to boost profits.

It takes about four years to build a large refinery so any substantial additional new capacity from new plants would have had to begin by the mid-1990s, energy experts acknowledge.

Internal documents from some of America’s biggest oil companies suggest higher prices at the pump may, in part, be a result of a deliberate strategy to limit domestic gasoline production,”These documents say point blank, look if you really want to boost your profits, you have to reduce refinery capacity,” said Sen. Wyden. “This industry went to great lengths to limit refinery capacity, control markets, restrict supply to boost their profits, increase costs to consumers, and then argue we should relax environmental laws.”
One Chevron memo warns the oil industry would never see higher profits, if it didn’t reduce the amount of gasoline being refined.

“If the U.S. petroleum industry doesn’t reduce its refining capacity, it will never see any substantial increase in refinery margins (profits),” said an internal Chevron document in November 1995.

The memo cited warnings given about refinery profits by a senior analyst from the American Petroleum Institute, the industry trade group, at an industry conference that year.

API spokesman Jim Craig said Thursday, “We don’t know about these alleged internal company memos, but the idea that the API would warn member companies on profits is ludicrous.”

A year later, an official at Texaco, in a memo marked “highly confidential,” called concerns about too much refinery capacty “the most critical factor” facing the refinery industry – resulting in “very poor refining financial results.”

The Texaco memo, written in March, 1996, concluded that “significant events” were required to deal with the excess refinery capacity problem and suggested one solution might be to get the government to lift clean air requirements for an oxygenate in gasoline. Removal of the additive would require more gasoline to be used in each gallon of fuel, tightening supplies.

Washington – Top Commerce and Treasury Departments officials appeared with Republican candidates and doled out millions in federal money in battleground congressional districts and states after receiving White House political briefings detailing GOP election strategy.

Political appointees in the Treasury Department received at least 10 political briefings from July 2001 to August 2006, officials familiar with the meetings said. Their counterparts at the Commerce Department received at least four briefings – all in the election years of 2002, 2004 and 2006.

The House Oversight Committee is investigating whether the White House’s political briefings to at least 15 agencies, including to the Justice Department, the General Services Administration and the State Department, violated a ban on the use of government resources for campaign activities.

Under the Hatch Act, Cabinet members are permitted to attend political briefings and appear with members of Congress. But Cabinet members and other political appointees aren’t permitted to spend taxpayer money with the aim of benefiting candidates.

During the briefings at Treasury and Commerce, then-Bush administration political director Ken Mehlman and other White House aides detailed competitive congressional districts, battleground election states and key media markets and outlined GOP strategy for getting out the vote.

Commerce and Treasury political appointees later made numerous public appearances and grant announcements that often correlated with GOP interests, according to a review of the events by McClatchy Newspapers. The pattern raises the possibility that the events were arranged with the White House’s political guidance in mind.

LOOKING FOR CHEAP STOCK ..any advice?

The strategy i want to employ is to buy when a company recieves some bad news with the event that the market typically over react and then I can make my money back as they recover and the price increase.. how do i find companies in thsi scenario and get in on the game!!

A stock that would be perfect for you is one that I own, called Incyte (INCY). They are a bio-tech pharmaceutical company. Last November, they entered into an agreement with Phizer (sp?) for payments of up to $743 million upon successful completion of various drugs. Well, recently they had some bad news. One of their drugs was pulled after some bad results in Stage IIB trials…but they have a lot of good drugs on the way. Plus that $743 million is double their market cap right now, meaning that the stock would skyrocket once there was a payment from Phizer to Incyte. Check out their website @ www.incyte.com. I plan on holding this stock for 3 years, or until it gets to 15 dollars, which ever comes first.

Mortgage Debt to Income Questions/Advice?

My fiancee and I are getting married and we are selling both of our houses and moving into newly constructed one. Both existing houses are on the market right now, and my hope is that they will sell before the new home is finished.

In the event that they do not sell at the time I need to start securing financing on the new house… I am trying to figure out worst case scenario, and need to know what is the highest debt to income ratio a mortgage company will accept for a mortgage on a new home.

If neither house sells, and I carry 3 mortgages the debt to income ratio is 52%… if one sells…. I can get it down to about 43%…. can I get a mortgage with these debt to income ratios?

I am not worried about cash flow persay… because this should be a short term problem (whatever that means)… but I need to know what can I qualify a mortgage for.

Does any one have any suggestions on strategies for managing a situation like this?

The Expert answers:

Just make sure your lender is NOT using a subprime company that has a DTI limit of 55.49%. You don’t need that, and it wouldn’t be much of a benefit since their rates are very high.

Assuming your credit is pretty good, Fannie Mae’s underwriting system has been, at least up til last week when they updated their underwriting engine, regularly allowing DTI’s up to 65%. No kidding. 100% financing with 620 scores at 65%, all day long.

So if you have any downpayment, better than 620 scores, you should be just fine.

Also, and few brokers know this, if your home isn’t sold, but is under contract, with a few extra steps (basically must prove your buyer is fully approved with appraisal for buying your home), you can exclude that debt even if it hasn’t closed quite yet. This could help in a pinch, if at least one of the homes is under contract by then.

But 52% is, unfortunately, pretty normal for people, without having 2 extra houses they’re qualifying for.

What camera/camcorder will work best for recording dirt track racing events?

I work in IT and usually do very well with computers/electronics, but this one has me on the fence.

I am needing a camera or camcorder that is convenient and inexpensive, but that can capture outdoor racing events at a local circle dirt track. Sound quality is not an important factor for me, but I would like to have good detail, as this will be used primarily for reviewing the races and car setup. The main event is usually at night, so it is under the lights – which aren’t all that great.

I have a good computer and an HDTV, so that won’t be a factor. Since this is going to be exposed to the elements (specifically heat and dirt), I don’t want to spend much more than a couple hundred dollars on it if possible.

I used to use an $800+ camcorder, but don’t feel like sinking that much money into it again. This year I’ve used the video portion of my Koday EasyShare 6.1 MP, but that’s not quite good enough quaity (although handy for taking pre-race pictures). The Zi6 (Kodak), Flip, and Webbie (Sony) Camcorders have me intrigued, but are camcorders like those lacking too many features or quality?

Any suggestions for what might work for this situation will be greatly appreciated. Sample uploaded videos (YouTube, etc.) would be even better. Thanks!

Poor lighting means you need large lenses and large imaging chips.

Fast action means you need low video compression.

Fast action means you will want to increase the shutter speed – which also means large lenses and large imaging chips (to get more light in since you can’t increase the lighting).

Loud audio means no hard disc drive (they won’t record under high vibration environments).

When you combine this, you are in the DV/HDV video format corner.

For standard definition only, The Canon ZR960, I guess. I don’t think the lens and imaging chip will be big enough – but it might work. Second choices are the Sony DCR-HC62 and Panasonic PV-GS320. Then the move to the Canon GL2… And it goes up from here.

For high definition and standard definition, this starts at the Canon HV40… And goes up…

Good low light behavior means good, big, glass and good imaging chips – and those are expensive.

The pocket camcorders and low-end consumer cams do not do well in low light and since you can’t add any light, these are not recommended – plus, they all compress the video a lot and compression and fast action do not get along well.

(a mouth piece that covers the upper teeth with fake diamonds) She said she was going to fit it for me and everything..
Im doing it – as i dont go back on deals
Question is… since that involes a MOUTHPIECE being shared, the fact we had a dinner together, we flirted the whole time and we both had a great time.
ASSUMING IT FEELS RIGHT OF COURSE- Am i probably good to go for a kiss? Any feelings or suggestions??

Unable to transfer Palm calendar to Yahoo calendar. Tried Sync which did not work. Never had problem before?

I have events on the Palm calendar as well as Yahoo’s calendar. I want to sync them. Have had problems with this ever since I removed Intellisync and installed yahoo autosync. When I tap the autosync on my Palm using Cradle/Cable, I get a message saying the connection between palm and desktop could not be established and to check setup. Don’t know what can be wrong with the setup.

I think you just answered your own question. If you have not had the problem with the intellisync, re-install that and use it instead.

I seriously doubt you’re going to find such an animal at all, let alone free. C’mon…coloured events??? You’re going to have to settle for fewer features or else use 2 different products.

I use MS-Calendar and an alarm app called citrus alarm clock. Between them, it’s all I need.

Writers, how do you guys approach your chapters?

When writing a chapter, I normally decide on one exciting bit/interesting event that I want to cover. Each chapter is basically a short story in itself, revolving around this event. The chapter gets a beginning (the setup for the event), a middle (where the thing actually happens) and an end (where I wrap up the chapter, or cut it off to leave the reader hanging).

This is all to avoid waffling and just writing what comes to mind, because that tends to come out disorganized (with large chunks where nothing is happening, or where I’m struggling to steer the story toward where I want it to go).

I’m making all this sound realy long but I actually do it subconsciously. What about you guys? How do you do each chapter?

When I write a chapter, I basically decide what I want to happen in said chapter. At the start of writing, I make a rough estimate of how many chapters I’ll need to completely cover everything. Then I write the chapter name and write whatever needs to be written. When the next chapter comes along, I wite the chapter name and repeat the process. It sounds disorganized but it’s the only way that works for me

I’m sorry for how long this is but please help; I don’t beg often but I need help and advice. Please. Please help me

I’m deeply afraid of hurting my love again and equally afraid of doing nothing. We have been together for a long time and spent almost 24/7 together from the moment we met. I knew what I had and we were both so happy.

I cheated on him about three months ago. We have been separate for six months so he could live with his parents and get a job so that we could get started there and get an apartment to stay together.

I was pretty much staying in my room the whole time back with my sorta-like-father. The town is too small and poor for there to be work; nearly everyone here is retired and the city pays our only grocery store with tax money to keep it from closing down. What jobs there are here–say our one gas station or fast food place–are held onto tight by people who have worked there for twenty years or more. Plus, with his grandmother it’s best I stay in my room.

Then I volunteered to help setup a renaissance event in the city north of here. I only planned to camp there the first night with others just setting up but after someone respectable offered me their shower each morning I decided to stay; fishing each morning was great after all. I hung out with older people as always and was having fun.

Until the day someone got me drunk. I ended up getting all mopey and sitting alone thinking of my love. I missed him terribly and drank more than ever (I had only drank twice before, and those times were with my love.) The guy who gave me the alcohol came over and offered to hold me for a while. Like an idiot I accepted; like an idiot I thought a hug would comfort me.

When he kissed me I kissed him back, and from there I started to freeze up. I’ve been raped many times and it’s always been better to freeze and wait. After kissing him all I could think about was that I was cheating. And I was – I kissed someone other than my love, and here I was in my tent thinking it would have been ok to be held by a stranger.

I was an idiot.

It went fast but I managed to unfreeze and stop it from getting to sex. The stranger was insistent but he didn’t intend to force himself on me, apologized, and left me.

I called my love the next morning and left a message. After a few days without a return call I wrote him a letter telling him how much I loved him and that I had cheated on him. I left out the details; exactly what happened wasn’t as important as that I had kissed someone else.

He left me.

Since then I sent him an email telling the details, one of begging, and one of just me trying to show him some love. Then after that I stopped contacting him for three months and stayed in my room here.

I called him last week just to say hi and see how everything was. I asked if I could call again and he said it would be ok. He was depressed and didn’t seam to be fully there inside. Two days later he texted me wanted to have text conversations as friends to build up to talking again– but he said that we can never be more than friends.

I love him so much. We never fought before or anything. I’m down to fifty dollars and have no income. I was completely dependent on him to get out of here.

More than anything I want to have a future with him.

What should I do in this situation?

Why does he want to be friends with someone who cheated on him?

(His last girlfriend cheated on him too, which as he said “there’s scars” making it hurt more that I poked them. All he ever did was make fun of her. So there is something different with us I just don’t know why or what’s going through his head.)

I’d ask him, but I’m afraid to ruin even this chance at friendship.

But on the same note if I stay here I risk being kicked out any time with just my tent and fifty dollars.

I want to get back with him but he said that can’t happen.
I have a diploma so I don’t know if the job corps are for me. But I’ll look into it.

And no, as much as I wish we were together still so I’d have a place, I don’t want him to get back with me because he pities my situation. It’s not just for a home. It’s for our love and happiness, so I understand that it has to be him who decides if we get together.

I still wonder about my other questions though above.
After looking into the job corps stuff I’ve decided it’ll work great. I can learn to be a chef which will help when I get back to college.

Thanks for that help but what do I do about my love? Just be friends?

Can I hope that it’ll be come more after I get into college again?

You can’t force someone to be with you. If he doesn’t want to get back together, then move on and leave him alone. He wants to remain friends because he still cares what happens to you….or maybe it’s his way of revenge since he knows you feel too deeply for him to just be friends. Who knows what his motivation is there, but it’s not worth putting your life on hold. Enough kicking yourself. Get up and do something with your life!

If you feel like you can’t make it alone, look at your options. You could join the Army Reserves, which is about the best option for young people these days since the job market sucks just about everywhere. The Army is giving $20,000 sign on bonus even for Reserves. It’s 17 weeks boot camp, then a year training in whatever field you want to work in – I suggest x-ray technician or something in the healthcare field as there is always a need for jobs in healthcare. Get to a recruiter asap.

Get out there and show the world what you’re made of and stop being dependent on others. You will grow as a person and be so proud of yourself! You can do it!!!!

(I wouldn’t recommend Job Corps because I’ve head nightmare stories about them. What they portray themselves to be in their marketing is far from what happens behind closed doors. There are a lot of kids that go to Job Corps as a last resort and these kids can be quite violent and staff doesn’t do much about it).

But if you are in South Jersey, especially if you are doing a fundraiser, use imprinsic.com. They are probably the most affordable I have seen. They do fund raising events for their clients every 3 months or so.

Operate as a Sole Prop. Until you start generate a decent revenue stream. It is costly (upfront and annually) to operate a corporation (LLC, S-corp, C-corp), and you only need that once money starts coming in.

For now, file for a DBA (using your marketing companies alias), and if you’re worried about someone personally suing you, then just get liability insurance or whatever.

Marketing company questions?

So I applied for a job in a marketing agency.
I got the job offer and tomorrow is my “orientation.”
Basically they described that I will be going over what the company offers to customers and so on.

They also mentioned that it will be in class form.
I have to understand the company more by asking questions.
What questions do you think I can ask?
I know what they do and how they do it, but I was looking for more specific questions.

Here is a small company description:
Fake Marketing is a direct marketing agency that delivers flawlessly executed promotional programs and strategically designed sales campaigns.

They do ‘personal’ marketing by promoting products during events, in venues, and so on.

Questions would be appreciated!

Try to think of questions that you might get from prospective customers, such as “What makes Fake Marketing better than the competition?”

This is also a good one: “Can you tell me why you like working here?” You’ll get some great info, and it shows that you have an interest in the company AND the people :-)

i am performing at a dance concert type of event. Can someone help me with advisor issues?

I was extremely polite while e-mailing my advisor about my dance group performance. I however had to e-mail her three times, about song requests. She sounded annoyed the second time, but the third time was needed since the dance company I go to would sponsor it. It’s the only way the dance company would help my group out. So, I tried asking one of the other girls from my group to email her for the third request. She never got a response, so I emailed her in the nicest way assuring her that the company would extensively market the concert and it would benefit it. The truth is it would mean free costumes and things from my dance company. I can imagine how hard it must be for the advisor having to listen to me, since she probably has other troubles, but its necessary for my dance company. Otherwise, the dance performance is going to be expensive On the other hand, I may get kicked out of a secure spot in the concert to dance which I worked hard to get. I’m not sure what to do.

I agree with the person above.
You need answers and you won’t get them by sitting back doing nothing.
You need someone of higher authority to step on this person. You need to stay calm at all times so you’re in the clear if anything comes back at you.
Even though the advisor is mean, it gives her no excuse to not return e-mails, calls etc. And keep a professional stand on at all times. No matter what she is doing or going through, her door should always be open for you and always be an inviting person.
